Ming Jue Hu is an Asian-American cinematographer. Born in China, he moved to New York City at 13. His passion for visual storytelling led him to study film production at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts and then Cinematography at the American Film Institute.
Ming's narrative work has been featured at film festivals such as Tribeca, TIFF and BFI London. In 2018, he was recognized as one of the Rising Stars of Cinematography by American Cinematographer Magazine. In 2019, he shot the first season of DETECTIVE CHINATOWN in Bangkok, now streaming on iQIYI. Recently, he worked on MY NIGHTS GLOW YELLOW and FIRELINE for Indeed’s Rising Voices program.
Ming was the cinematographer for the feature film LAROY, TEXAS, which stars John Magaro, Steve Zahn, and Dylan Baker. The film premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2023, winning the Grand Prix at the Deauville Film Festival and Best Script in the International Competition at the Mar del Plata International Film Festival.
His commercial work includes clients like British Airways, NBA, Levi’s, and Oppo. The Martell spot NAOMANG was shortlisted at the Berlin Commercial Festival 2021 for Best Cinematography. The film OUR HOME, THREE RIVER SOURCE REGION was shortlisted at Cannes Lions YDA for Best Documentary. He also shot the Webby Award-winning series QUEST FOR CRAFT, hosted by Questlove.
Ming is based in LA and NYC, a member of ICG Local 600, and is represented by DDA Talent.
